I asked this question last night as I have things to buy at Allentown and A Stebel did some studying, no tariff on the exempted amount but on anything value over.
Thanks for confirming. I guess it makes it worth a trip to the US now if you can save 25% duty and 13% sales tax.

how are you going to save , when you come back across , you'll be paying
LOL I know, I don't get that. Unless you are staying for 48hrs or more. I was there for a month and came back with some expression lights and precision flippers without duty. But for a day shopping trip I'll order from Canadadian shops.

I am kinda hoping for some time off now that the weather is getting nice.
I can live on EI, if I somehow get laid off.
I have been assured that shutting down would not effect my dept (facilities) as there is always things to paint, preventative maintenance.
Maybe a few small 'tariffs group leagues' can get going.

If you are there at least 48 hours, not the day trips. Although, historically the border is pretty good if you bring back less than $200 for a day trip. But now with 25% tariff, likely a lot more people will get pulled over. Will be interesting as you will have to show where each product was made as only items produced in the USA would be subject to the 25%, all the purchases would be subject to 13% HST.

Thanks for pointing out the incorrectly tagged product, it appears 3 games got tagged, we had to add a new app to deal with variable tariff & non-tariff items and these slipped through. There are no tariffs on any used games, the product has been updated.
plus HST on that total
Applicable GST, PST, or HST is in addition to all prices on our site, calculated for the Province it's delivered to.

Does the $800 exemption still apply if you are bring in parts, etc. from the US and are visiting for over 48 hours? Assuming the parts are made in the US. Thanks.

So does this mean pinball machines are now 25% more expensive if purchased from the USA effective March 4th?

The $800 personal exemption for vacations still negates all tariffs so you are good for smaller purchases.

Pinball machines are 25%

Just as an FYI, I just got an order from pinball replacement parts in the US. I needed some light boards for a scratch build. John's Jukes had one of the boards I needed but not the other and nobody else in Canada was selling them so I had to import. It was sent USPS tracked. Anyhow, I didn't get charged the tariffs even though they hit me with HST, so it was inspected, sent by a company with pinball in its name and I didn't have to pay the 25%.

I have been using Shippsy and received two items this week from the USA (made in the USA) and only paid HST. So doesn't look like Cdn Customs is charging 25% duty yet.

2 weeks ago I picked up $125US in parts that I had shipped to UPS in Ogdensberg NY. I went down to pick them up and I was pulled in on the Canadian side and had to pay 25% tariff. The CND customs guy was really nice and was so apologetic for having to charge me the extra. So they are charging and on small amounts.

So are we back to no tariffs on pinballs? So confusing.
I have not heard if Canada has dropped its counter tariffs yet, so technically the tariffs are still on for imports.

I am so tired of trying to follow the bouncing ball… one thing to watch is if the bottom on the used market drops while they (USA) dive deep into a recession…

What is confusing exactly? The US haven’t backed down from anything and are adding the auto sector tariffs. It’s getting worse, not better. The counter tariffs will probably include more things.

Country of origin is what matters. It's not tariffs on "anything pinball related". Most pinball machines? Yep, they'd have tariffs as they're made in the US.

Parts are a mixed bag. Some boards are made in the US, lots are made in China or Taiwan. LEDs? They're all made in China.

Pinball manufacturers will likely see their BOM costs balloon, as the components will get tariffs applied when they import. So pinball prices are likely to go up shortly in the US. Then add the Canadian counter tariff on the completed product, and we have basically killed the NIB market except for the very wealthy. Still 1st world problems though.

US Dollar is slowly falling, Canadian dollar gained 3 cents this month. US dollar will continue to fall, slowly, but will continue while markets are confused by tariffs. If the US sees a recession we could see US pin prices dropping while the Canadian dollar rises. You can already buy used Premiums for 6-7k USD, this could fall even lower while our exchange rate improves. Not a guarantee by any means but also not out of the realm of possibility at this point. Canadians use PINSIDE pricing so will be interesting to see what happens to the value of pins in Canada
