I'm still thinking where the sound deluxe PCB is doing it's self test ok (this rules out the ROMS and amp section), this is a communications issue between the MPU and sound PCB. I'm starting to think the only way to narrow this one down will be with a logic probe or scope. D

Which part are you missing? The whole assembly, or the wireform? (because you can order up just the wireform if it's missing) If you're looking to avoid the crazy Marco shipping you could always ask SB to order this up for you on their next order into Marco... D

No, you must use a plasma DMD. (some LED DMD's can be orange) D

Before you start swapping anything around, test the HV section with your DMM as Syl suggested. (also check the two fuses on the DMD controller) The HV section on these has a high failure rate. D
