For Sale thread pricing removed

I have been seeing this on a lot of for sale threads.

People bump their for sale ads and lower or change the prices, when it sells, all pricing are removed. Why are people doing this? Why do you want to hide the price adjustments you made and why would you hide what was the last price before it sold?

This data helps to create a certain baseline on what an estimate in price with recently sold pins.

Just seems a bit odd that some people would do this. I try and always state how much I sold a pin for, to ensure there is a proper history.

Ya. I've seen a few as well. I don't get it. Why not leave pricing there as a reference? It helps both sellers and buyers to know what fair market value is. I've always been transparent with my ads and I've often times added the actual sale price as the last comment on my sale threads for reference before the mods lock them.

So many games on the market right now so information is definitely helpful, especially any price cuts.

I've also noticed people not only remove the price but erase all trace of what machine was even sold too. The only thing I can see why people do this is for maybe possible tax implications or hiding something from a soon to be ex-wife in a divorce settlement??

I'm keeping an eye and list of users that do this and maybe next time they post up their machine for sale I'll delete their for sale thread immediately. PBREV is not here just for your convenience when you want to sell your game and if that is how you want to conduct yourself then please use kijiji.

I was once asked by a buyer to remove the price a few years ago. I don't recall the reason they gave, I didn't think too much of it at the time.

Well thanks for some users who tipped me off on price removals. I have the ability to view all change history and from now on after locking thread I will check edit history and make a final post for what game sold or potentially sold for.

So if you don't like that then don't post your game for sale here or give me a valid reason so we can all understand why you don't want price to be shown after game is sold. And for those that straight up erase everything like title with game name and messages when game is sold I noted who you are. Next time you list a game for sale I will just delete your thread. PBRev is not to be used a dumping ground for your game and only your benefit.

I don’t usually post much here, but I’ll add this: I read a thread somewhere about Pinside sellers asking their buyers to report a fake (higher) sale price than what the game actually sold for. So take Pinside pricing ranges with a grain of salt, even though everyone seems to be religiously pricing their games using that.

Another option for the moderators of the forum would be to change the global forum settings related to the users ability to edit their posts.

I am on a few other forums, for other hobbies, and one in particular comes to mind where you can edit your post for around 15 minutes, but after that it stays the way it is. I believe the idea is you can edit a spelling mistake if you notice it after you post, but not to be able to go back and change the content or remove the text all together days or weeks later. Just a thought. I also think leaving the pricing history of a game that's been for sale is a good idea and we shouldn't be editing it to keep it secret.

Exactly...what's the point of worrying about prices being removed if you can just get your thread deleted?
