Hey all,

Trying to diagnose a intermittent crate multiball problem im having. Every few games or so when starting crate multiball the game will think the multiball has ended early before you even get a chance to play it out. Very annoying. Cant find too much about this problem online. What ive tried so far.

Replacing trough opto boards

Replacing the crate sensor and eddy board with auto eddy.

Replacing 12 opto board.

Replacing some flaky optos.

Replacing shooter lane switch as i read somewhere someone had success with that.

Not sure where to go from here

Does it happen with just the crate multiball, or the coffin one as well? Do you ever have a single ball end early? I'd suspect the trough switches in this case, or possibly the outhole switch if there is one. If you go into test, are the trough switches all the time, like if you take the balls out and refill the trough? If there's a point where two switches trigger, that could cause the game to lose track of balls. Other possibility there is any misalignment/roll back where you could have two switches broken when it should only be one.

Assuming all that is good, and all your connectors are good, I'm not sure where to go next. Could be a switch matrix problem? You could try going through all the switches in the game and seeing if anything else is triggering when it shouldn't. https://www.pinitech.com/switch_database.php?name=Williams_Scared_Stiff (assuming that's right) has the matrix if you don't have the manual. See if anything in a row or column triggers more than it should (like a trough switch being triggered by the crate entrance).

Good luck!
