Last night's LOPL meeting had us for the first time outside of London, and we were all in for a surprise. New hosts Doug and Nancy Langs had a Wrestlemania in the rotation for the evening's festivities. Thanks Doug and Nancy for a great night. The other games on hand were:

The Walking Dead
Mustang
Taxi
Iron Man Vault Edition

Judge Dredd would have been the sixth game in competition, but gremlins early in the night took it out of the lineup. Two first place finishes for Paul D catapulted him to the top of the score sheets for the night and ended Randy's reign at the top. High scorers this evening were:

Paul D The Walking Dead
Tony L Iron Man Vault Edition
Paul D Mustang
Steve V Taxi
Matt J Wrestlemania

League night this past Saturday turned up 48 players. New host Greg Benz had us playing on 4 games never played in the LOPL before including Metallica, Pinball Magic, Frankenstein and Tales from the Crypt. The other two games were Dracula and Creature From the Black Lagoon.

Low wall voltage caused a slew of problems prior to league starting so with a few fixes and shutting off all the non league machines we managed to get everything going. After that everything ran almost flawlessly!

Outside, things didn't run as smoothly. A wild turkey paid us a visit, landed on the pool cover, took care of business and the flew away! Later on the kids ball got stuck on the cover and Jay in an attempt to rescue the ball got himself a full on sock soaker :)

Back inside for the 2nd shift in an attempt to reduce heat the lights were all turned out and shift 2 played pinball in the dark! And out front was utilized as well for a pinball machine transaction! Welcome Johnny Mnemonic to the LOPL line up!

Thanks to Greg for hosting. It was a great night and we will be back!

Top scores for the night were:

Dracula: Randy

Creature: Mike D

Frankenstein: Paul D

Pinball Magic: Jamie T

Tales from the Crypt: Mark I

We have a 1st time winner for the night: Mark Dans. Congrats!

Full scores are posted here: http://www.incitti.com/pinball/lopl/

Thanks to Ray for opening his home last night and welcoming LOPL to the seventh event of the season. Ray’s games in action were a good mix of his usual classics along with some new additions. The full line-up of games in rotation was:

Theatre of Magic
Cirqus Voltaire
Tales of the Arabian Nights
Terminator 3
Medieval Madness
Road Show

LOPLers brought their A-game, putting up some monster scores: 73 million on Medieval Madness; 143 million on Cirqus Voltaire; 1.6 billion on Theatre of Magic! After the dust had settled, even with two high scores Randy W couldn’t overcome Mike D, who came out on top for the night by a single point. High scorers for the evening were:

Larry P Medieval Madness
Lonnie C Terminator 3
Ray B Road Show
Jeff T Theatre of Magic
Randy W Cirqus Voltaire
Randy W Tales of the Arabian Nights

The half-way point of the season comes in about a month, with new hosts Leanne & Steve hosting the next league night on Saturday June 27th. As always, two rounds; early slot shows up at 5:00 p.m. to start playing at 5:30. Late slot players are to show up at 8:00 p.m. to start playing at 8:30.

You couldn’t have asked for a better night to play some pinball than this past Saturday for our eighth league event of the season. The driving rain and high winds wouldn’t deter 30 LOPLers from heading out of the city to Leanne and Steve’s place, our third new venue this season! There LOPLers were treated to some different games they hadn’t seen before:

Jackbot
Tron
Getaway
Mustang
Banzai Run
Revenge From Mars

The basement and new wiring held up and the games performed flawlessly all night. In a carbon copy outcome from the last league night, Randy again had two high scores but was denied another first place finish by a single point, this time at the hands of Shaun R.

Notable high scorers were:

Jackbot Ray B
Tron Randy W
Getaway Jeff T
Mustang Randy W
Banzai Run Paul D
Revenge From Mars Joe L

Check out how you did on the LOPL website:

LOPL heads back into the city in three weeks (July 18th) to start the second half of the season at Aaron’s place. There will be 2 shifts of 28, early slot shows up at 5 p.m. to start playing at 5:30, late slot players are to show up at 8:00 p.m. to start playing at 8:30.

Contact Mike D to sign up. See you all at the next one.

Where'd summer go? It's been a while since our last update but we're still going strong with our 12th event now in the books. Darrell and Maria were the hosts this time around with what started as 7 machines but ended the night at five after we lost Indiana Jones and Judge Dredd to mechanical gremlins. The final lineup was:

Wizard of Oz
Demolition Man
Red & Ted's Road Show
The Simpson Pinball Party
Metallica Master of Puppets

Aaron A pulled out the overall win for the night, with Randy W, Joe L, Mike D and Mark D rounding out the top five. High scores were spread out with no LOPLer getting more than one:

Wizard of Oz David McC
Demolition Man Aaron A
Red & Ted's Road Show Mike D
The Simpson Pinball Party Randy W
Metallica Master of Puppets Mark D

The scores are now up for your viewing pleasure (or displeasure in my case :yuck:)

Saturday November 28th brought LOPL to Aaron’s place for the 3rd LOPL playoffs. A total of 24 LOPLites competed including a number of members from outside of the area (K/W and Burlington). Host Aaron and reigning regular season champ Mike D got off to quick starts as did Julie. It was quickly apparent that the day would be a battle for most of the LOPL crew as people traded wins back and forth. In the end during the 13th round of qualifying David managed to defeat Mike for his seventh win to claim the last spot in the playoff round. Had David not won there would have been an eleven player playoff just for that final playoff spot as ten others had 6 wins.

Then with four people tied at 9 wins a single game playoff was required to find out which two would go to the A final and which two would go to the B final. That single game was played on AFM. Going into ball 2 it was anyone's game and then Jeff T began to pull away finishing his game with slightly less than 10 Billion points. Steve V managed to outpace Paul D to get the final spot in the A final with Paul D and Shaun heading to the B final to join David. Larry apparently fearing a possible immigration raid had left the property and did not compete in the final .

The games for the B final were No Fear, Road Show and Judge Dredd

The first two games had the exact same results; Shaun in first, followed by David and Paul D in third. This left Shaun with 6pts, David with 4pts and Paul with 2pts

In the third and final (or so we thought) game Paul D pulled out the stops and won the game with Shaun finishing 2nd and Dave 3rd. This of course meant that Shaun had won the B division but both David and Paul had 5 pts so an additional tie-breaking game would be required.

The tie-breaker was played on Monster Bash and Paul managed to continue on his streak and defeated David earning Paul 2nd in the B division (6th overall).

During the B competition the A final was also going on. The A finalists would be playing Pinbot, Spiderman and Maverick. After two balls on Pinbot both Aaron and Mike had sizeable leads on Steve and Jeff. Steve couldn’t improve on his score and was out of the running on this game after his ball 3. Jeff on the other hand continued his late inning heroics and came back to actually win the game with Aaron placing 2nd and Mike 3rd.

On to Spiderman; Mike D rebounded to take 1st on SM with Jeff toughing out a 2nd and Aaron just behind him in 3rd. Steve had a rough outing and after two games the point totals were Jeff T with 5 pts, Mike 4 pts, Aaron 3 pts and Steve 0 pts.

Maverick was played in a single player mode to help with some unbalanced scoring in multiplayer. Steve V stormed back and put up the target of just under 500 Million. Mike D decided to go second and put up a respectable 222 million, Jeff went into ball three behind and selected superpops (2 Million/pop) and after a heated struggle he ended with 224 million (one pop bumper more than Mike) at this point Mike could no longer win the tourney and Aaron would have to win the game to cause a tie-breaker. Using this knowledge of the game Aaron went to work and was able to put up more than 500 million before finishing his second ball. Another tie breaker would be needed!

The tie-breaker game would be on Dracula. Aaron having choice decided to go first to put the pressure on, this however did not go to plan as after his first two balls Aaron had amassed only 20 Million points. Jeff playing solidly put up a total of 240 Million after ball two. Aaron then managed to finesse a wonderful ball three and jumped his score to 450 Million, but Jeff would not fold. Working hard during his ball three Jeff played on but in the end was only able to add an additional 110 Million falling 100 Million short leaving Aaron as the new undisputed LOPL playoff champion!

Special thanks to Dan B who travelled to run the turny and for doing the above write up. Thanks to Aaron for hosting. It was a great time. Super thanks to all the LOPL hosts, if there were no hosts the league would not exist. Thanks to all the LOPL execs for all your hard work behind the scenes. Some days poor Steve comes home from work to 40 email exchanges between the execs :) Finally, thanks to all the players in LOPL for making this the best season yet! LOPL continues to grow and improve. The players are also improving so the competition is getting tougher and tougher each year.

Stay tuned for some changes coming up for the next season which begins at the beginning of February.
