Isn't that just referring to buying a licence for the commerical version of paid channels. e.g. You cannot just play the home version of FUBO or DAZN to show the Champions League or NFL in your bar. You have to licence the commercial version which is significantly more expensive than the home version. But I think that just goes to the broadcaster

I wasn't aware of that, though there is something similar in the UK for music; you need a PPL PRS licence to play any recorded music (even playing the radio in the background) it gives some compensation to the music publishers and artists.

To those questioning the need for paying extra in a bar or any commercial place... of course you have to, the owners are greedy as fuck. (Talking about the sports owners, music rights, etc - not the bars / arcades!) They wouldn't even care if the arcade had 3-4 people during a sporting event, they'd want as much money as they can possibly extract from everyone.

Hell, what Zoom is talking about with the music licensing... when I worked at a local ISP we had the Canadian version of the RIAA (SOCAN I believe) relentlessly calling us demanding we get a license for our on hold music which was specifically unlicensed music. They would not accept that even though we told them the music that was playing and where it came from. They would not accept that for years.
