You can't bring it back across the border without paying tax. If they are willing to bring their game over, likely the best way. But they may get stuck paying tax. Not sure if Americans pay tax at the Cdn border?

I would buy all used. Premiums are worth around $9-9.5k and Pros around $6.6-$7k these days used, without the HST. Other DMD games are usually around $5-7k.

For those looking to ship to the GTA, I just shipped a game with Manitoulin from depot to depot. Very reasonable within Canada. Price was around $150 CDN from Regina, Sask to Barrie depots. If anyone in the Toronto area was interested in this game. Manitoulin also has a depot in Mississauga.
