    Stern's next pinball... :)

I thought it looked familiar. So the real question is, did Whoa Nellie not sell because of the theme, or because nobody wants to pay that much for a game that's that simple?

    Pinball Playfield Extractor

That looks like a really bad idea-it's supporting the playfield at one point near the back. Basic physics says that the torque on that point could get pretty severe, and I can see a case where this warps, or worse, snaps a playfield under the strain. If it took some of the weight lower down...

The History of Apogee & 3D Realms

Where else did you get PC games in the early 90s :) Much more selection than trading floppies with friends like we had to before then in the C64 days. I can't remember most of the ones I was on, but I think there was one called the Frat House, and another called the Screwy Gecko that were...

The History of Apogee & 3D Realms

I actually had to explain to someone at work last week what a BBS was.

WTB Wanted to... Borrow? 3/32" Slot Cutting Router Bit

Is that the same bit as you use for T-molding? I remember looking for one locally when I built my MAME, and having a really hard time tracking one down. Ended up having to order online, and now I'm not sure where it ended up. Might still be at my Dad's place, since I borrowed his router to...

White Water Owners - Help Please

When I rebuilt the flippers on my Whitewater, I used these kits (http://www.pinballlife.com/index.php?p=product&id=983) if that helps. Seems to work fine. The only other weirdness on there that I can remember is that the upper flipper uses the older style return spring, while the bottom ones...

    MMR Code Update

What the hell do you patch in a 20 year old game? Did they re-code this by hand, or are they emulating the WPC ROMs from the original?

The OFFICIAL "Hey, I got a new machine" thread

I was thinking about this again the other day, and the distinction I came up with is that when I said that it wasn't quite pinball, the distinction was control. I think the line is in control-for something to really be what we think of as pinball today, a player has to have control of the game...

The OFFICIAL "Hey, I got a new machine" thread

I guess it's just that it's closer to a flipperless game (half flipperless?) than what you'd think of as pinball, and the fact that it was specifically rigged for payouts. You never know though-a colorDMD could be a good addition :)

The OFFICIAL "Hey, I got a new machine" thread

That's definitely a unique piece, and it does look cool. Something different that's not quite pinball I suppose.

    Stern Ghostbusters

Kind of neat I suppose, but is it interactive with the game at all, or just always on? Might be better if it was active in certain game conditions, like the beacon on HS or HS2, or the moving dalek on DW.

#15 Twilight Zone w/ Lots of Issues

Thanks for the write up-interesting to read the process that goes into diagnosing something like this. Way beyond where I'm at with this stuff.

So what is it that's so great about Stargazer?

    SOLD TSPP

Just do it-you can always make more money, but they're not making any more TSPPs :)

    Taito Pinball

Thanks for sharing-I never knew about that. It's kind of crazy that those managed to get produced as such blatant knockoffs, but I suppose that's par for the course in some regions. Wonder if they actually reverse-engineered the US games or imported parts, or if everything was made locally?

    Stern Pinball Arcade

I like the Gear VR for what it is. I got it because I had the Note 5 anyway, and for $100 I could mess with some VR stuff without going in over $1000 on an Oculus/Vive setup. Some of the games (Eve Gunjack and Land's End) have been worth playing, and it's neat for messing with VR video stuff...

    STTNG problems

Not sure if I can offer anything specific, but I'd try disconnecting as much as you can. What if you disconnect all the GI? Can you get down to just CPU/DMD-never tried that? Are any of the ICs socketed? Where were the places where you ran the jumpers-could that be the issue? If you have...

    Stern Pinball Arcade

I tried the gear VR version tonight, and it's a pretty hot mess right now. First, the good. The 3D effect is pretty good, and the field of view is pretty similar to playing an actual machine. You can see the whole playfield/DMD at once, which is better than trying to play on a...

    Stern Pinball Arcade

Oh shit, it was for Gear VR. It just wasn't listed in the "new" section. Downloading it now-I'll give it a shot tonight and see how it works. Nice that they give you MSF for free. Interesting that it doesn't require a controller-no idea how it'd work with just the touchpad on the headset...

    Stern Pinball Arcade

I'm guessing this is rift only and not Gear VR-just checked on my phone and it's not showing up on the Oculus store there. Really curious to try the VR version of this. I don't think it'll help with the latency or lack of tactile feedback, but the camera support and 3d visuals would be really...
