I would say 2k is roughly the cost for a pre-1985 solid state these days (unless some deal pops up). Check out the local pinball leagues (TCPL) and get out and play and meet others. This will give you a better understanding of what is out there and what you like.

You can buy one at http://bgresto.com/ for about $300. It takes 6-8 weeks for them to make it. I got one because I think it looks so much better than the crayon art version that was actually shipped with the game. The original also blends much better with the playfield.
