Anyone know what this is?

New to this and will have many more questions. This was at the bottom of my machine, where does it go?

the other problem is counter doesn't count down properly, it will jump from 10 to 7 then 2 etc.

I'm not an expert at this era of machine, but to me it looks like an armature plate from one of the relays.
