Hey Adam,
So how does it work? Seems you've got people in heats of 4 so that the availability of points at any given meet is reasonably balanced.

You've mentioned that, if you really want to compete though, you have to come out fairly often. So, I'm assuming there is no "averaging" here? Basically, if you don't come out, your total points standing doesn't really stand a chance of climbing, even next to someone who may score lower, but comes out more often. Is that about right?

For the guys at the top of the list, are they pretty well showing up every time?

Thanks in advance!

Basically you get put into a group of 3 or 4, and then play on 4 games.

Each player is ranked via their score and you get:

4 points for 1st
3 points for 2nd
2 points for 3rd
1 point for 4th

so on any given night the most points you can get is 16 and the least is 4.

We have a 15 week season and all of the scores from each night are accumulated and the person with the most points at the end of the 15 weeks is crowned Season Champ.

We also give players 3 dropped weeks, or 3 lowest scores. So if you don't show up for 3 of the 15 weeks those 0's will not count toward your overall score, but if you show up for all 15 weeks only your lowest score is not counted

Now Season champ is only one award, and the prize for season champ is a "replay" which is free entry into the next season.

There is also the award for most improved player which is determined by percentage averaged over two seasons. The percentage is a number that is a better indicator of a players skill. The percentage is based on the number of points you achieve and the number of nights you did it in. so as an example if you attended 1 league night and got a 16 your percentage would be 100%. We require players attend at least 5 league nights to get a valid percentage and 7 league nights in the current season to be eligible for the award.

We also have the "Pinball Wizard" award which is the person who achieves the most high scores through out the season. That is the high score on each machine played by the entire league.

No saying all of that, this really all builds up to one day which is the TOPL playoffs. Not attending every night will only affect you ability to win Season Champ, but you can still win the playoffs which is where the cash prizes are paid out.

We have two divisions usually, an A and B division. The only people eligible for our B division are players with a valid percentage, but any player in the B division can opt to play in the A division. Money between the divisions is split based on participation in the division.

Players are seeded into the double elimination playoffs based on their percentage, if a player doesn't have a current valid percentage, they are seeded by a previous percentage, if they don't have a valid previous percentage, then the highest seeded player will get choice of who they would like to play and that seeding rank will follow them through the playoffs. No player without a valid current season percentage will rank higher then someone with a current valid percentage.

The games are best two out of 3 and the other advantage of having a high season score is that, for the first game, the person with the high season score will get choice or game or order. Then on the second game, the lower player gets choice of game or order and if necessary choice then goes back to the higher seeded player for the third game.

We continue on in this fashion until someone wins, top 3 in each division are awarded cash prizes.

Here is an example of a bracket from our last playoffs:
