I just try to look for games that have a good combination of several factors.
-It has to be challenging. Easy games get old fast.
-The rules or gameplay should not feel overly repetitive
-mutiple objectives or ways of scoring is always nice
-killer theme, artwork, music/sounds. These always help

I have similar criteria. The games also should have different layouts and / or a unique feature to that game ... like Stewie's pinball on FGY.

That said, here's my 3 favs:

Simpson's Pinball Party
Attack from Mars
Centaur

If I had to keep just 3 pins:
1) Williams IJ
2) Monster Bash
3) The Addams Family (Gold)
(Honorable mentions: MET premium & TWD premium tied as favorite Sterns).

Hey Mike,
Personally, I love the premium version of MET as I feel the 'add-ons' offer some nice over-all enhancements to the game-play.
I really enjoy the effect of the hammer slamming the ball through the playfield into the casket/subway under the pf.
This is a cool effect and in my opinion I don't find it blocks the pf.
The premium also offers the cross which goes up and down (not a big enhancement but still fairly neat) and the snake opens it mouth to lock a ball (another cool feature).
Also, the premium has the upgrade RGP led color changing lighting which on this particular title is truly amazing.
I think I'm missing a few other things which are added to the premium/le editions.
(I've tailored by model adding in a custom Dirty Donny painted Sparky, mirror blades and color changing speaker/flipper button led kits).
On a separate note, I've played the PRO and it's still a great title.
Overall, the pin has smooth flow, interesting interactive toys and solid rules.
You'll likely by happy with either edition.

Top 3 is a hard thing. I think mine changes as time goes by. I'm going to give my thoughts on 3 games :)

MM will always have a special place in my hart as it was the first game I started making progress on and learned about rules. I have never owned it so I dont know how it holds up.

I owned the soprano and it was a really fun to have in my collection. I sold it to my brother and it lives in his collection and I still miss it even though I can play it whenever I want.

I have a BSD right now its fun but a bit to hard. I don't think I will ever get rid of it because it feels so good to blow it up but im not sure I would recommend it unless you have a more the one pin.

Not sure why your looking for a list but if its games to buy and you only have room for 3 I think you need to learn what you like. I think a good collection for home use needs to have some challenge (BSD for me) and something that's a bit easy going. A good game on sopranos for me was 45 minutes, a good one on BSD is 5 minutes. I dont always want to get my ass kicked :)

My top 3 right now :)

1 MM (never owned)
2 TOM (never owned)
3 WH2O (own)

Thanks for the advice Steve!
I’m slowly building toward a five pin collection or so.
Unfortunately not many opportunities to play them
Around here. The advice you guys have been giving me
Is really helpful!
Thanks again, Mike

Have you narrowed down your possibilities? I usually have a hard time finding certain titles I want for the collection, most are just not readily available used.
I forgot to mention Metallica, it is a great game also, Highly recommend. I get so absorbed in certain pins and forget the rest sometimes. Pinside has a players rated top 100 with comment section, you might find interesting, and help decide what to hunt next.

In a collection of 3, i’d want to ensure i had some variety in game play. Lots of games have the same or similar layout. I always thought it would be cool to have pins from diff eras. Early SS, a sys 11 and a WPC. Of course there are lots of other eras and genres but we’re only talking 3 pins here.

WPC: i like many but gravitate to MM and FT when i see them
SYS 11: lots of great great ones. Taxi and ES are great imo.
Early SS: something nostalgic maybe - firepower for me as the sounds take me back to growin up in the 80’s.

Hey Completist,
Thanks for the suggestions.
I'm thinking a mix of both new and old. My era was the late seventies.
I'm not really looking for an EM but maybe early SS with chimes for nostalgia would be nice!
Thanks again, Mike

Hey Rascal,
I have been leaning towards a MET. Any thoughts on Pro vs Prem?
I have the MetLE which is much like the premium, but I like the extra bling when I can get it, but I think you would be very happy with either one and the pro would save you a couple thousand. Plus you can always add more mods later.

I'm still a novice myself, however I also had my playing prime in the late 70's early 80's, and I'm working towards a 5 pin collection. For the feel of the day with chimes, I'd go with Bally's Strikes and Spares, I just picked one up, and as soon as I started playing I thought, this is what I remember from my arcade days. I'm also waiting to finalize a trade for a Firepower, which I played a lot back then. There's a reason these are two of the top selling pins, the bonus being the price has stayed low even though you don't see them for sale that often. I'm working towards getting machines from each decade, and a cross section of manufacturers. I currently have a Checkpoint for 90's DMD, but have Rocky and Bullwinkle, and WCS94 on my radar for alternatives. In the future I'm thinking of a couple of newer machines, one definitely of AC?DC or Metallica.

Hey Rockin, sounds like we both have very similar wants and likes.
A big part of this is very much nostalgia for me with most of my influence
from the 70’s and 80’s. Although a machine from each decade with a healthy dose of the
New machines would be nice. I started under a year ago with a Bounty Hunter, thinking
that would be the total of my collection, then traded that machine on FunHouse. I just sold a Last action hero to help fund my purchase or a Stern Pirates Of The Caribbean and I also have a Monte Carlo. MET is on my radar.
I’m just struggling with pro vs premium, if it is worth the price difference!? I hear both are nice machines.
Thanks for your input and keep in touch. I would like to hear how you make out with your collection.

1) Dialed-In or TZ or TAF (All Pat Lawlors so they have similarities, Dialed-In is awesome)
2) AFM or STTNG or TOM (Hard to chose which)
3) WhirlWind ( Best SS IMO )

BUMP!!! Looking for an update!
I’m shaking up the collection a bit and would like to get your thoughts on this!
Lots of new titles out there and hopefully more suggestions. So if you have a minute give me your thoughts.
Don’t be shy!!! I see some of the regular members here have sold off some their treasured pins! What’s up?what are you buying!? Inquiring minds want to know!
Thanks in advance, Mike.
